Edneyville Fire & Rescue is a combination fire department comprised of paid staff and volunteers. These people may be your friends, neighbors, relatives, they’re people like you—with families, jobs and active lifestyles who still find time to give back to their community.
Established in 1961 in what was primarily an apple farming community, the department and our community have grown together. With money raised through multiple fund raisers in the early years to build one station to house two fire trucks has grown into three stations and 17 emergency service vehicles . We provide comprehensive firefighting, extrication, specialized rescue, fire prevention education and emergency services to the public. We operate out of three stations, one located at 1 Firehouse Road which is our main station, our Station 2 is located at 3101 Fruitland Road, and our Station 3 is located at 21 Sugarloaf Mountain Road. Stations 1 and 2 are manned 24 hours a day.
Our membership averages about 50 members that are made up of employees, volunteers, and active and inactive lifetime members. Those members with 20 or more years of active service are promoted to lifetime member status. We meet every Monday night to train to make sure our members are ready to perform in any emergency situation that may arise.
The department currently maintains a fleet that includes 5 engines, 2 tankers, 3 tac trucks, 3 brush trucks, rescue truck, ladder truck, Chief vehicle, & 2 support vehicles. We are also the location of EMS 41 that responds to calls on the east end of the county out of our Station 1.
The department is governed by a 13 member Board of Directors who handles the budgetary needs of the department. It is comprised of volunteers, employees, and members of the community. We average responding to approximately 1300 calls a year of which about 50% are medical calls. We are rated by the Department of Insurance as a Class 3 department which directly impacts the amount of insurance premiums our residents save on their home owners insurance.
